Cast
Cordelia | Toyhou.se
The protagonist, babey!
Can’t really remember anything about herself. I have a playlist for her that’s just named “Identity Crisis.”
She gets headaches a lot, usually in brief bursts that feel very intense. They may possibly be getting worse over time.
She has a lot of weird dreams as well. Most of which are a bit closer to nightmares (that’s a very big very strong “BIT”; when they’re bad they’re bad)
Missing a whole entire eye and has a couple of weird scars she doesn’t remember getting. Then again, she can’t remember anything else anyway, it’s probably just whatever.
Either has or is beginning to develop a bizarre ability she doesn’t entirely understand just yet. She’s not really sure what to even call it.
Taken in by the others after they ran into her somewhere in the forest. Lucille doesn’t know she’s here (they’ve never met at least. Since Lucille definitely acts like she knows they’re hiding something from her).
Virgil | Toyhou.se
A good friend and also my son.
He has a mechanical arm that he built himself and later installed a light into the palm of when he found out Cordelia is afraid of the dark. A Good Friend.
Makes jokes a lot, delivered in a completely flat voice. Never laughs at his own jokes. Loses his absolute mind over other peoples’ jokes.
Related, crazy smart. Comes up with "theories" often that are either overexaggerated gags or extremely complex analyses. No way to really tell when it's one or the other because his tone and delivery will be exactly the same for both.
Used to live in a swampy area a little ways away from the Den. He doesn’t talk about it much. Doesn’t seem like he wants to.
Has the biggest rivalry ever with Lucille and they’re constantly making jabs at each other. She’d probably kick him out if it weren’t for his arm. His job is getting dangerous stuff for her that other people can’t just Grab, so she keeps him around. And he milks the hell out of it because he knows he can get away with almost anything.
The only reason Cordelia hasn’t met Lucille is because Virgil recommended, Not doing that. They’re putting it off for as long as they can manage to hide her.
Octavia | Toyhou.se
Dating Mel and Tia.
History Buff. Generally Buff.
Telekinesis babey. It takes a lot of energy and it’s something she has to Really really focus on, so it’s not the most reliable in very stressful situations...and she doesn't actually use it much to begin with. But imagine her just moving shit with her mind. Iconic.
Lived on her own for quite some time before joining the Den. Camped out at various temples and just moved around a lot. She has the most experience on dealing with Angels out of anyone in the group.
Has, as a result, developed and hung onto some loner tendencies. She tends to keep a lot of things to herself until she physically or mentally can't anymore (but boy will she try!)
Currently one of the only ones in the group that can Read well, so she has to read everything to the others. Virgil can also read a bit, but Octavia always has to read Lucille’s writing to him. Virgil says it is because Lucille’s handwriting is “Weird and Webby” which is fair.
Melonia (“Mel”) | Toyhou.se
Dating Octavia and Tia.
Token Tall Friend. Just a little bit under 6ft.
She has some sort of fire manipulation ability that she struggles to use. Apparently it wasn’t an issue before, and she’s not really sure why it is now. Now she just uses it to cook. She’s a good chef. She's also always extremely warm.
Clearly struggles a lot with self-esteem issues, amplified by the aforementioned difficulty with her ability, plus any interaction she has with Lucille. Seems very eager to prove she's "useful" in spite of the aforementioned aforementioned difficulty.
One of the first members of the “group,” along with Tia. They’ve been with Lucille for the longest amount of time (having lived in a previous network she was overseeing, one that was attacked by Angels).
Tia | Toyhou.se
Dating Octavia and Mel.
She has a healing ability and is basically our nurse. She’s also hemophobic and because of that, she panics when she sees blood. It’s a journey.
Extremely optimistic. Always looking on the bright side of things. Actually a ray of sunshine in these trying times.
Her and Mel have matching tattoos on their bellies. It was part of an old system that’s no longer used very often; it was basically a way to help identify someone from your group if anything ever happened to them. It’s a tough world.
Hobbyist tailor that spends a lot of time making clothing. She makes a lot of robes for Lucille, who seems very fond of her as a result (also thanks to the fact that Tia’s one of the only ones in the group that acts kindly when speaking to her, apart from Mel who becomes nervous and more of a pushover. Tia’s attitude feels more genuine to her) (That doesn’t mean she’s not talking shit when Lucille isn’t around though).
Albanus (“Albie”) | Toyhou.se
New kid. He’s introduced very early on into the story.
He seems to be experiencing a similar bizarre memory loss to Cordelia. It’s assumed that they’re in the same boat…so maybe there’s an actual reason this is happening.
He also, again like Cordelia, gets a lot of headaches. His are less intense than hers, but they usually last a long time (sometimes days).
Like stupid good at navigation? He's like a living gps.
He’s actually very shy and comes off as very polite. Calls Lucille “ma'am” the first time they spoke and she was like Oh You’re Golden. She’s still just as mean to him regardless.
Has several different facial piercings plus a huge scar on the left side of his face that extends from the left corner of his mouth to his hairline (he’s missing a bit of hair where it ends). His look and personality are an interesting combination.
Avalon | Toyhou.se
Eccentric girl with a knack for making Literal Actual Bombs.
Lives next to the main group in the Den. Neighbors. Friends.
She talks a lot about an uncle that nobody else has ever actually met.
Gives a heads up if Lucille’s coming by so Cordelia can Hide somewhere.
Lucille treats her differently than she treats anyone else…she's actually kind to her. Avalon doesn’t really know why, but theorizes it’s because they met under Bad Circumstances when Avalon was Very Young.
She kind of takes advantage of Lucille’s kindness toward her and will often pester Virgil to give whatever he’s gathered for Lucille to her instead. Lucille obviously definitely knows Avalon does this, but never confronts her about it…and she’s not going to kick Virgil out over it. So Lucille lets it slide for the most part…though she does express her annoyance about it to Virgil.
Avalon’s not part of the main group but she’s like, an honorary member.
Lucille | Toyhou.se
Not just any bitch…she is THE bitch
Very secretive. Incredibly rude.
She seems to just Know everything that’s happening in the Den all the time. Though she never specifically brings anything up unless it’s mentioned first, she does do vague things to make it apparent that she knows (things like…lingering a bit and looking around while Cordelia is hiding somewhere nearby). It’s hard to keep secrets from her.
She runs the Den, though not out of the goodness of her. Heart. She only seems interested in helping people if they can give her something in return, and that’s how she decides who can stay and who can’t.
She wears a lot of masks and has a few favorites that she wears often. They’re unsettling to look at and made worse by her sometimes just standing there and Staring at someone while not saying anything.
She made a joke about Virgil missing an arm the first time they met. He made a joke back about her missing most of her face. They don’t get along.
Spends most of her time off in her own section of the Den making potions and things. No one really knows what they’re for, and nobody’s going to ask her about it. It’s the reason she needs Virgil to get certain things for her.
Cast
Eleutherios (“El”) | Toyhou.se
Current Demon God.
Also Currently Missing. No one really knows what happened with them.
Killed Mayall in order to become God (actually, more specifically, in order to stop his Reign Of Terror). Considered a hero. By most people.
Octavia is, like, their biggest fan.
They were close with Ariadne, the two were good friends and worked together often. Her actions after their disappearance are absolutely baffling, no one knows what her deal is at all.
Ariadne | Toyhou.se
Current Angel God.
We don’t know much about her other than that she’s a God and she’s responsible for the Angels, and all the harm they’ve done and are doing.
Doesn’t leave the Isles much anymore. The last time she was seen anywhere else was during an attack on the previous Den network.
Mayall | Toyhou.se
Three-headed piece of shit.
Ex-Demon God, before El.
Used to torture people just for fun. I heard he'd drink your blood just for the taste, then laugh and spit it out.
Had an ego bigger than the Universe. There’s several upon several temples devoted to him, which he had built and dedicated to himself, located throughout the forest. Most of which date back centuries ago. The majority of them are in ruin, seemingly destroyed intentionally.
No trust for Mayall sympathizers.
Andromeda | Toyhou.se
Four-eyed Lemon.
Ex-Angel God, before Ariadne.
Angel history. We don’t know much about all that. I’m adding him here because I’ve posted art of him already so it’s fair I'm allowed.
Species
Demons (Demon Gods*)
Basically just regular people except with like. Horns and claws and pointy teeth. Often have weird abilities also (ie Octavia with her telekinesis thing)…Demons that don’t have one probably just haven’t figured it out yet.
"Corrupt" Demons
(Called “ABOMINATIONS” by Mayall…El opted to refer to them as “Victims” instead)
They are Demons who have been corrupted by Mayall. They became agitated and extremely erratic after Mayall’s death, and they were considered “dangerous.” It’s unclear what exactly became of them, though it seems there are no more present.
Angels (Angel Gods*)
Often very tall, human-ish lookin monstrous things. They behave similarly to Classic Apocalypse Movie Zombies. They wander around the forest and make a lot of weird noises, sometimes they just scream. Unsettling, dangerous, and we don’t really get them, so we just avoid them usually.
Due to behavioral similarities between the current Angels and past Corrupt Demons, it's really not a reach to say Ariadne's Angels are Corrupt Angels. She just doesn’t refer to them differently, and uncorrupt Angels aren’t present alongside corrupt ones like uncorrupt Demons were so I don’t refer to them differently either
Liches
Really pretty basic. Some Magic Undead Creature. Could be some walking corpse or basically a skeleton. Lucille is the only known one in the story currently, and all we know about her is her name and……face. She doesn’t offer anymore information about herself.
* Gods are not a separate, individual species. Any Demon could become a Demon God. Any Angel could become an Angel God. They are, however, different as far as their abilities work. I’ll figure out a better way to phrase this one day but they get some sick stat buffs pretty much. The specifics are a bit different for both groups.
Locations
Aenopia
The general area. Continent? World? I don’t know, but you get the gist.
"The Den"
The main cave network that the characters reside in at the beginning of the story. One of the largest (not only in terms of the literal area itself, but also the amount of people living there) networks in Aenopia, run by a Lich named Lucille. Exterior is mostly hidden by shrubbery and trees, so it offers great shelter.
Hallowed Dominion
A swampy area that’s a bit northeast of the Den. Virgil mentions having lived here previously, but doesn’t say much more about it.Angels were sighted close by, and it’s believed to be abandoned now.
Jade Forest
Extremely lush section of the woods that’s notably much more dense than other areas. This also means Angel sightings here are very scarce, despite its close proximity to The Weeping Isles, as they avoid incredibly dense woods such as this (too hard to move around).Apparently has some sort of connection with El (the current, albeit AWOL, Demon God) as proven by a temple located here.
The Weeping Isles
An Island located far north of the forest, and up in the sky. Easily summarized as Giant Floating Golden City. The Angels and their God reside here.More specifically…the Isles are made up of a large central island home to an extremely tall tower, with several smaller islands closely surrounding it. Each island is connected by large bridge structures, with only one smaller island connecting to the central island. ((or if we’re getting REALLY technical, there’s TWO that connect to the tower…but the second one doesn’t connect to any of the other islands. There’s only one entrance into the tower))The majority of each island is covered in buildings, giving the top of the area a very artificial feel. It’s a stark contrast to the underside of the island, which sports Jagged Rocks and Clumps Of Dirt And Plants. It’s unknown exactly how the islands’ layouts are or what’s even up there, but it clearly is (or at least was at some point) Pretty Busy.
Bone Lake
As the name infers……it is a lake.Very large, located under The Weeping Isles in a chasm that’s presumably been left there from the Isles rising into the sky.Hopefully not, like, full of bones or something.
"Flux Hall"
An ancient, abandoned amphitheater from Mayall’s reign. It’s clear he spent a Lot of time here, to a point where it’s believed he just lived here. It’s a place that’s been mentioned in multiple texts and has a Horrid Reputation due to it being the hosting grounds of one of Mayall’s awful “games” – his most recent one at that. Not to mention it’s definitely not the most warm and inviting area to begin with, and that’s not even just based on its deteriorating stone-like structures. It has a very unsettling vibe about it, the kind you’d get from walking around some old haunted castles or something. Even Octavia, our very enthusiastic history buff who at an earlier point simply referred to Mayall as a “Freak Of Nature" like it was Nothing, is very put off by the place. The energy there is just…Bad.
Locations
less specific, still notable
Various Temples
Demon Temples located throughout different regions of Aenopia’s forest. Almost all of them have some connection to an ancient Demon God named Mayall, and many seem to be very very very very old while others may simply be very very old. All are in varying states of deterioration (depending on age) and many appear to have been intentionally destroyed. There’s at least one Temple in the story that’s connected to El found in the Jade Forest. It hasn’t been destroyed like the others, though it is in some state of ruin due to severe plant overgrowth.Just a side note on Demon Temples…Angels typically avoid going into them. They avoid even getting too close. If you’re brave enough to camp out in a Mayall Temple, you’re at least safe from the Angels for a night. Whatever might be in that Temple, however, can’t be spoken for.Due to a lack of knowledge about The Weeping Isles, it’s unknown if the Angels have many temples of their own up there. But because I love drama, I will say this: there IS at least One, it’s not connected to Ariadne, and nobody has been in it in literally years.
The Forest Itself
Despite location names that are like “_ Woods” or “_ Forest”, they’re all basically in The Same Giant Forested Area. These are more like specific portions of the general forest. The place is huge. It’d take days or weeks to walk through the entire thing. We’re going to be in some forest pretty often. The entire thing doesn’t have its own name, we just call it “Outside.”
A strange building, located just outside the Hallowed Dominion
Small and nearly empty. Assumed to be old enough to have been put here by Mayall. Pretty much just looks like a storage unit in the middle of the woods…a giant empty box. It’s unclear what it was used for specifically.
